Technic Counter Attack Episode (no replies)

OK, I know we have Skype, and facebook, and email, so it might seem slightly silly to use the forums for this. But I thought, as the Technic episode was a group recording, I would make this here, public. I'm not sure if you are interested in recording more of these, but if you are I am committed to getting them out on a timely basis, unlike this first one. I'd love to here your thoughts on that, are you planning on recording more?

Regardless of whether or not you are interested, here is some feedback on the first episode.

First thing is the English. Peer Kreuger had great English and I had no problem at all understanding him. Jerner Krmelj was OK. And Tuomas, I hate to say it, but your English has to be improved if you are to keep up as a host. Not trying to be critical or anything, just calling it the way I hear it. :)

Second is promotion, you/we need to find a way to promote the show if you plan on doing more episodes. The simple thing is, I can't put something like this into the feed as Technic is too different from system building. That means that listeners will have to choose to download the episode and I don't think too many of the current listeners will. So far, it has been downloaded 40 times. Not bad I guess, but the one I uploaded a few days ago already has 300+. What we need to do is bring Technic fans in from other sources. If you are interested in doing more I have a few ideas on how we can get this out to Technic fans.

Well I've done a bit of a tune up on the podcast site. The job is not yet finished, but I believe once it is completed the results will be satisfactory. I want to expand the site from a straight podcasting blog to a website that acts, in a way, like a community portal. Of course everything will in some way be connected to the podcast, but the scope of the site will be slightly wider now.

Unfortunately, with this change I was forced to upload some images to the LAML server. The files sizes of all these images are low (under 100kb, average of 60kb I would guess) but they are still larger sizes than the simple text we have had in the past. Hopefully this isn't a problem, but I wanted to create this thread to make you (TheQ) aware of what has happened and in case it becomes a problem, we can discuss it here.
"Chong Tian (Rising Force) is defender of the mysterious valleys of King's Wall mountains. This mystical 'lord of the air' is god from tales of the local people, who appears as a huge shadow for those who dare to enter his kingdom."
Mecha built on Brian Cooper's TEKNOMEKA isntructions but with custom-built armour. Made for Palikkatakomo's Model Expo 2010 event. I had to choose to build either big mecha or SHIP and since I am lazy bastard, I went with mecha with TEKNOMEKA instructions.

"Kobold is light fighter plane which is suited best for protecting your precious carge from airpirates and moon creatures. As small and agine ship it is often used to defend large cargo-airships but because it's weak armanent and light defences, it is not often seen in larger battles."

My ventures into realm of Dieselpunk continue. Kobold started as a "educational project" after I recieved quite many questions from younger Finnish builders. They wanted to know certain details of my "building process" so I thought I might go and write more about the process in a blog. After nine blog messages (the last, 10th, is coming soon), tale of Kobold has been told from the first ideas and [link=http://www.doscher-design.com/kobold.html]inspiration[/link] to image post-processing and publishing.

"The moment everyone has been waiting for has finally come! The v16 engine of the new airship design is finally ready and final check-ups have been completed. The moment becomes more special when representatives from Royal Army and Academy of Gear have the final meeting with the owner of the workshop."

Idea of the workshop started when I heard my LUG, Palikkatakomo, could get some showroom from LEGOPark event at the largest mall of Finland, Ideapark. Since I knew the cabinets TLG would give us were rather big, I thought that I should use the space in best possible way. I had built few building before but I had never done any work in the indoor area of them so I thought that it might be interesting to build a "diorama" showing the inside of a engine workshop. I added in dieselpunk with "art deco" since I wanted to explore that style as well.

Sisu NA-110 is (according to Wikipedia) articulated all-terrain transport that is mostly used in the Finnish Army. I have few personal experiences with this machine fron my own military time. "Teka" or "rickety-rack-box" is rather nice vehicle that moves in the Finnish forest quite nicely smashing bushes and small trees as it goes.

Last year I built TT-75 (WIP threads here and here) which was my first "better" TECHNIC creation. While it was rather OK for me, it's slowness and few technical details made me mad. I decided that my next TECHNIC creations should be fast, agile and "fool proof". I first tried to make a small rally car but the scale I chose proved to be wrong choice: I simply didn't have space for proper inner workings...

Well, after rally car/Eagle 3 went back to drawing board, I wanted to try something else. Our LUGs first public show at Model Expo 2009 was coming along quickly and I chose to complete my creation by then. After watching some old pictures at my Flickr-account, I noticed the picture I took from real "tekas". Teka's design looked rather straight-forward and most importantly, it had inner space to fit Power Functions-parts inside. After few R&D weeks, I was making the creation quickly and I was able to complete before the Expo.

More pictures at Flickr and Brickshelf (after moderation).

PS: I am very proud of the teka's steering, which is really similar to the one used in the real thing :)

The prices over at the Pick-a-Brick section of LEGO Shop@Home have been undergoing changes. First up (by 300%), then back down again. Here is the official letter from LEGO:

Quote:
Dear LEGO fans

Based on all the feedback over the past week regarding our new Pick A Brick elements and pricing we will reduce the pricing on LEGO Pick A Brick elements.

There were good reasons behind our decision to raise prices of this relatively operationally complex Pick A Brick service. However, over the last week we have realised, thanks to you, that it was unacceptable to raise the prices so steeply without notice. We have acted quickly and have taken the decision to reduce the pricing on LEGO Pick A Brick elements. The prices cannot return to the original 2008 level but the increases are now much smaller. We are pleased to now offer you the biggest, most comprehensive assortment ever including:

- More colours
- Most recent doors and windows are now available in PAB and MOD
- More longer beams to enable larger constructions
- More accessories (such as hats, wigs and mini figure tools)
- More mini-figs (now with girl and child (short legs))
- More cool tires and rims

We hope to welcome you back to Pick A Brick soon.

Your LEGO team

A strange story I found on TheOneRing.net:

Quote:
From gamesindustry.biz: A staff member at UK studio Traveller’s Tales has seemingly confirmed that the developer is currently working on two new Lego games, long-rumoured to be in production. According to the staff member’s CV, Lego Harry Potter and Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull are both in development at the Warner Bros owned studio. While EA has the rights to publish one more game based on the Harry Potter movies, Warner Bros is the parent of the Potter franchise and has already put Traveller’s Tales to work on other brands including Batman.

The staff member also states that they had worked on a demo to pitch to Peter Jackson for a game based on the forthcoming Hobbit movies, due in 2012.

Traveller’s Tales is known to be working on one other Lego title - Lego Battles - due for release on the DS this year, and had considerable success with the Lego Star Wars franchise.

Does LEGO have the license to The Hobbit movie? That would make sense, The Hobbit is a kids story, unlike The Lord of the Rings. This will be interesting if anything more comes up.

Whoa, This fourm is dead one mouth and a live another. . I'll leave my markings here in a stone for you to read when you stop by again. .

First you might be asking me "Where the heck you been all this time?" Well, I kinda abanded the LEGO Community cause I felt like no matter what I built no really cared all that much and my collection keeps going out of date as more and more LEGO pieces are being made. . And I have been buying less sets. T_T

Though I still build with LEGO, and follow up on the people I use to know, but don't espect a MOC from me anytime soon.
So all this time I have been taking my PC to the Source Editing Community instead cause I can have Countless parts. and its all free. :P If you really care on what I'm doing most of my time is this.

So, why did I come back.

I was thinking of that I never really said "good bye" or anything like that. Once I started with Portal: Project-Beta, I really did not come here ever again..

So, I don't really know if this will be my last post or what, but also, James I'm impressed that you turned LAML from a proboards forum into a big LAML radio talk show. That's very impressive and I hope you go even further into this. Grats to you Q, also. ^^

I wish you all luck.

James Shields sent me this today:

Quote:

March 2009 sees the 30th anniversary of the original Classic Space sets from LEGO. Now, three decades on, it’s time for a celebration of spacey goodness at www.neoclassicspace.com.

Neo-Classic Space is a reimagining of the LEGO Classic Space range, using modern building techniques and parts. More than just inspired by the Classic Space sets, Neo-Classic Space is an extrapolation of the line into the 21st century and beyond. We aim to follow a carefully thought standard, which we feel is in keeping with the original designs.

The culmination of a top-secret project planned over many months, www.neoclassicspace.com will present a new model every day throughout March, many from builders you already know and love, some from new talent you may not have discovered.

This is only the beginning. It is time to retake space. We hope you'll come along for the ride!

Lately my RSS reader has been flooded with stories about LEGO merchandise. First it was the LEGO camera, then the board game, now we are getting a LEGO cell phone. What next, a camcorder? Oh, wait...

I'm not sure if its just me, but I can't see a LEGO cell phone having any chance at success. If your given the choice between Blackberry, iPhone, or LEGO, what are you going to pick? No one in their right mind would trust a LEGO phone. As an example of this, I have a LEGO pen (two, actually) and I love them. But whenever I need to do some actual writing, I never use a LEGO pen. Its a piece of good looking junk and just doesn't work very well.

These electronic items LEGO is making are a huge mistake.
Blinding Lightning is racer faster than lightninh bolt! It is perfect for those afternoons when you want only to cruise through open desert. The racer's sparkling white paint makes it sure that people notice you and your Lightning. Ask for more information and order your own from your local spacedock.

BL started it's career as a simple frame built from Mike Yoder's instructions. I haven't had used SNOT for a long time and I wanted to see what I could still do with my skills. I chose to build "classic" scifi-designed craft since I hadn't been building anything related to Space for a nearly a year. White colorscheme came naturally when I noticed that I had a lot of "suitable" white bricks.

My main objective with BL was to build as smooth and retro-styled craft as I could. I wanted also try some larger greebling design since that is one of things I need to learn. I am rather satisfied to the final result althought some small details bug me a bit ;)
PS: We will have a LEGO show coming up in the April in Finland's largest miniature model expo. Should I leave this ship intact and show it there?
