Technic Counter Attack Episode

OK, I know we have Skype, and facebook, and email, so it might seem slightly silly to use the forums for this. But I thought, as the Technic episode was a group recording, I would make this here, public. I'm not sure if you are interested in recording more of these, but if you are I am committed to getting them out on a timely basis, unlike this first one. I'd love to here your thoughts on that, are you planning on recording more?

Regardless of whether or not you are interested, here is some feedback on the first episode.

First thing is the English. Peer Kreuger had great English and I had no problem at all understanding him. Jerner Krmelj was OK. And Tuomas, I hate to say it, but your English has to be improved if you are to keep up as a host. Not trying to be critical or anything, just calling it the way I hear it. :)

Second is promotion, you/we need to find a way to promote the show if you plan on doing more episodes. The simple thing is, I can't put something like this into the feed as Technic is too different from system building. That means that listeners will have to choose to download the episode and I don't think too many of the current listeners will. So far, it has been downloaded 40 times. Not bad I guess, but the one I uploaded a few days ago already has 300+. What we need to do is bring Technic fans in from other sources. If you are interested in doing more I have a few ideas on how we can get this out to Technic fans.

Well I've done a bit of a tune up on the podcast site. The job is not yet finished, but I believe once it is completed the results will be satisfactory. I want to expand the site from a straight podcasting blog to a website that acts, in a way, like a community portal. Of course everything will in some way be connected to the podcast, but the scope of the site will be slightly wider now.

Unfortunately, with this change I was forced to upload some images to the LAML server. The files sizes of all these images are low (under 100kb, average of 60kb I would guess) but they are still larger sizes than the simple text we have had in the past. Hopefully this isn't a problem, but I wanted to create this thread to make you (TheQ) aware of what has happened and in case it becomes a problem, we can discuss it here.

Yes I can translate but thought it was first a forum for french speakers !

laFraise.com is Europe’s largest ongoing T-shirt design competition online. Week for week, laFraise and its community vote on and select winning designs from hundreds of contest submissions. The winning designs are then printed in a limited edition of 500 shirts. laFraise sees itself as a design community and offers talented designers a platform to express their creativity and exchange ideas under the banner of custom-designed t-shirts and graphic design.

We have released a new shirt for lego fans "DEath is pop" created by our designer short.

"Kobold is light fighter plane which is suited best for protecting your precious carge from airpirates and moon creatures. As small and agine ship it is often used to defend large cargo-airships but because it's weak armanent and light defences, it is not often seen in larger battles."

My ventures into realm of Dieselpunk continue. Kobold started as a "educational project" after I recieved quite many questions from younger Finnish builders. They wanted to know certain details of my "building process" so I thought I might go and write more about the process in a blog. After nine blog messages (the last, 10th, is coming soon), tale of Kobold has been told from the first ideas and [link=http://www.doscher-design.com/kobold.html]inspiration[/link] to image post-processing and publishing.

"The moment everyone has been waiting for has finally come! The v16 engine of the new airship design is finally ready and final check-ups have been completed. The moment becomes more special when representatives from Royal Army and Academy of Gear have the final meeting with the owner of the workshop."

Idea of the workshop started when I heard my LUG, Palikkatakomo, could get some showroom from LEGOPark event at the largest mall of Finland, Ideapark. Since I knew the cabinets TLG would give us were rather big, I thought that I should use the space in best possible way. I had built few building before but I had never done any work in the indoor area of them so I thought that it might be interesting to build a "diorama" showing the inside of a engine workshop. I added in dieselpunk with "art deco" since I wanted to explore that style as well.

If you want to buy spesific pieces from NXT sets, your best bet is the Bricklink, where you can buy LEGO bricks from other hobbyists. Since you are looking for pieces from NXT sets, I think that best way to start your journey to Bricklink (It can be rather odd place from time to time) is to check the set inventories for NXT sets by click the "(inv)" link next to the set. From there you can find the piece you are looking for and check which stores have it and how much it costs. And yes, Bricklink is awesome place.

As for the stuff we (James and I) build, I am mostly interested in TECHNIC and scifi themes and James.. Well, I haven't seen his creations for a while but he is more of Star Wars guy. He is currently working on a 3D LEGO video and that is taking his free time.

Sisu NA-110 is (according to Wikipedia) articulated all-terrain transport that is mostly used in the Finnish Army. I have few personal experiences with this machine fron my own military time. "Teka" or "rickety-rack-box" is rather nice vehicle that moves in the Finnish forest quite nicely smashing bushes and small trees as it goes.

Last year I built TT-75 (WIP threads here and here) which was my first "better" TECHNIC creation. While it was rather OK for me, it's slowness and few technical details made me mad. I decided that my next TECHNIC creations should be fast, agile and "fool proof". I first tried to make a small rally car but the scale I chose proved to be wrong choice: I simply didn't have space for proper inner workings...

Well, after rally car/Eagle 3 went back to drawing board, I wanted to try something else. Our LUGs first public show at Model Expo 2009 was coming along quickly and I chose to complete my creation by then. After watching some old pictures at my Flickr-account, I noticed the picture I took from real "tekas". Teka's design looked rather straight-forward and most importantly, it had inner space to fit Power Functions-parts inside. After few R&D weeks, I was making the creation quickly and I was able to complete before the Expo.

More pictures at Flickr and Brickshelf (after moderation).

PS: I am very proud of the teka's steering, which is really similar to the one used in the real thing :)

It would have been easy for Rock Band to "switch to kid mood" simply by introducing more kid friendly songs and graphics. LEGO part is just "easier way" to do that.

So now we know how TLG spent those extra profits. I am rather sure that TLG had to spend some money to get minifigs to the game.

I just wondering if TLG spends all the extra profit to different lisences (Disney must have costed a lot)? Seems that they are just trying to gather new customers while the old customers still have problems with TLG itself. Online PaB might be one of the best services that TLG has started recently and look how bad that is going. The list of the parts is miniscule and the prices are, compared to BL, rather high. They should improve that service instead of getting their hands on more deals...

Well, what do you know:

Quote:
Warner has confirmed Lego Rock Band and here are the first in-game screenshots and info.
Lego Rock Band for Nintendo DS will be co-developed by TT Games and Harmonix in partnership with Backbone Entertainment, a Foundation 9 Entertainment studio. All versions are scheduled for 2009.

"Lego Rock Band combines the multiplayer music experience of Rock Band with the fun, customization and humour of the Lego videogame franchise packed with brilliant chart-topping songs and classic favourites suitable for younger audiences, including:

"Players will become rockers as they embark on a journey to stardom that the whole family can enjoy as they work their way through local venues, stadiums and fantasy locations on Earth and beyond, that mimic the imaginative settings that the Lego world offers. Also continuing the LEGO "build-and-play" gaming experience, players will be able to create their own Lego Rock Band style as they customize their minifigure avatars, band and entourage, including roadies, managers and crew. Lego Rock Band supports Rock Band instruments, as well as other music game controllers."
